The True Test Of Freedom Is Not What We Can Do But What We ?Choose Not To Do
Is freedom the right to do everything, or the wisdom to know what not to do?
This question has echoed through history, from soldiers who bled for our tricolour to the quiet citizen who does what is right when no one’s watching. Freedom isn’t a free pass; it’s a responsibility dressed as a right not the absence of restrictions, but the presence of self-control. For a student, freedom means choosing discipline over distraction. For a citizen, it’s upholding fundamental duties, not just demanding fundamental rights. For a parent, freedom means letting a child choose while teaching them that not every choice deserves to be made.
Herein lies the real conflict: society paints freedom as “doing whatever I want,” when its essence lies in restraint. When we refuse to restrain our freedom to exploit forests and natural resources, society eventually imposes restrictions upon us. Even freedom of speech, paired with the right words, can turn war into peace and foes into friends, but thoughtless mouths inviting the same freedom bring catastrophic repercussions. As they say, “With great power comes great responsibility.”
Our freedom fighters fought for a nation where duty and dignity walk hand in hand.
As a student, I choose to wield my freedom wisely, working hard in silence, dreaming fearlessly, letting my success be a tribute to those sacrifices that earned me this freedom.
