BLOG ON BIOTECHNOLOGY

TECHNOLOGICAL BIOLOGY

BIOTECHNOLOGY the word seems to be small but it is actually a large branch of science influencing the present Biological scenario. As the word suggests it is actually a technology based on Biology harnessing cellular and bio molecular processes to develop technology and products that help us to improve our lives and the health of our planet. This professional branch of science has further multiple divisions each of which specifically work out for the development in their fields-

  • Bio Informatics- Biotechnology that makes the rapid organization and analysis of biological data possible, via interdisciplinary approaches which addresses biological problems using computational techniques.
  • Blue Biotechnology- Marine and aquatic applications of Biotechnology used to improve cleanup of toxic spills, improve yields of fisheries, etc.
  • Green Biotechnology- Agricultural use of Biotechnology, heading towards the production of crops in not only good quantity but also with good quality.
  • Red Biotechnology- Application of Biotechnology in Medicine including designing of organisms to produce antibiotics and the engineering of genetic cures through genomic manipulation.
  • White Biotechnology- Exemplified by the designing of an organism to produce useful chemicals, use of enzymes as industrial catalysts.
  • Bio Economics- Investment in applied biotechnologies to increase income output.

The advantages of Biotechnology do not end here. Biotechnology in the present scenario is also helping by showing advancement in diagnosis of a disease by helping us to move forward from primitive Symptomatic Treatment to modern Molecular Treatment. This branch of science also helps in creating more fuel efficient ways to power up the field of Transportation and is thus indirectly contributing towards the economy of the country. Biotechnology too helps in creating enhanced crops that are less susceptible to insects and diseases. The career opportunities in Biotechnology are too endless. Once getting into this field of science one can apply for the jobs of Microbiologists, Biochemists, Biophysicists and many more.

This is what we call as, THE POWER OF BIOTECHNOLOGY.
